A person who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and gave them to youngsters at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual crimes against two children both nine and 10.

The accused was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on Friday.

Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was kept in jail before a further hearing on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, handling the case, described the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.

The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She explained Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had concerns in recently.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, justifiably.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

The legal counsel explained objects including baby oil, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his family member alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She stated the man went on to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was investigating the police response of the situation.

The legal representative explained the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson called the authorities again.

She stated Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five youngsters.
